Who Can Help Me Save My Marriage

CounselingAre you feeling that every option has been exhausted? Perhaps you just want to barge into the office of your marriage counsellor and scream for them to somehow help you save your marriage. Well, other than the part about shouting, looking for some advice somewhere else is actually a great option for you.

Good Friends

Do you have friends who are doing well in a relationship? If so, talk to them about how they have made it. This doesn’t just mean friends your own age, but older friends that have been married awhile can provide you with a wealth of advice on marriage and working through tough times.

Although it may appear that their relationship is perfect, you may be amazed at the difficulties they’ve survived. Of course when you talk to friends and get their advice, they only know about their experience and the things that help them out. The things that helped them may not be the right option for you.

Forums on the Web

You can find all kinds of information on the web, and you’ll find plenty of marriage information on there too. The great thing about finding advice on online forums is that anything you say can be anonymous and you’ll get all kinds of different opinions, no doubt quite different from your own. The only problem is that one post probably won’t get you a good response to your question. Since you won’t be interacting in real time, you may not get to the bottom of the problem.

Counselling

Most friends who know you are having marital problems are probably going to ask you whether or not you have thought about getting marriage counselling. There is definitely a reason that they will ask this. Marriage counsellors have good training in helping couples to resolve their conflicts and they work with a variety of couples that have many different types of problems.

The only problem here is that often your spouse doesn’t want to go to counselling. Usually they already think that the marriage is done and it is a waste for them to work on trying to revive the marriage. Even if your partner has this mindset, don’t totally give up. Although you don’t want to beg or pressure them into it, sometimes some logic can make them change their mind.

Although counselling can definitely be a big help, it won’t cure everything. In fact, the average success rate for marriage counsellors is about 30%. Not a big number. Definitely not a big enough number to hinge your entire marriage on just that counselling.

Books for Self Help

If you have been on the web looking for marriage help, more than likely you have seen some eBooks that provide self help for getting through rough times in a marriage, even if your partner is ready to give up. While they may not seem like a like, some of these books can be very helpful to you.

Most plans in these books have been put out there by marriage counsellors that have a lot of experience and who have developed solutions that really work. Most of the time their success rate is above that of other marriage counsellors out there.

No matter what option you choose, don’t think that the problems in your marriage are simply going to go away on their own. Don’t just sit back wondering who can help you to save your marriage. You must figure out where you are going to get good advice, and then take the advice and use it as soon as you can. The problems will only get worse as you put off solving the problems.
